A Million – Andreas Gursky alluring work challenge

A challenge which I took up after reading and seeing the work by Andreas Gursk. It is heartening and inspiring, in that it encouraged me to attempt the same 3 metre piece with the limited equipment I have and representing a piece of Singapore history in an abstract and 'enlarged' form. Here, instead of a flattened orthogonal pictorial form, I prefer the creation of 3 dimensional depth, although it is easier to create a flattened and graphical form. In fact, it is a challenge to create 3 dimensionality with such a difficult subject matter. Beyond that I was also creating a painterly effect using the reflection of the water, continuing my investigation of painting with light and the camera. Water is the major concern of Singapore and it is a crucial element for a healthy and sustainable life. The water of MacRitchie Reservoir epitomized Singaporean's search for potable water and the genealogy of history link to the source and sourcing for potable water, with renew contract with Johor and Indonesia, and the recent development of renewable water and desalination technology. Water is constantly at the centre of the agenda in Singapore politics.  MacRitchie Reservoir is one of the oldest source of water catering to domestic use. It is the 'Genius Loci' of the water history of Singapore, the reservoir water holds great significance in the heart of Singaporean. The verticality of the weeds and the horizontal weeds strewn by the rain of previous night hold intricate interstices with the wavy reflection of the weeds, conjuring the delicateness of life when placed in the abundance and potency of nature.

Water is a symbol of life. And in many cultures and society it is also a symbol of prosperity. Water is the giver and sustenance of the myriad living things on earth.

Water is also a metaphor for a way of life. Bruce Lee, the inventor of Jeet Kune Do, put it philosophically, 
“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” 
Formlessness epitomises that of the beyond. Be formless has always been my approach to art. Form is a state of cristallisation, frozen in a state of stasis. Art and artist must flow like water, the very essence of being alive.

More Transference - from Kandinsky to Architecture to Digital Suprematism

Kyo Terai + Yoko Fujii

Simple and elegant lines bespoke the art of Yoko Fujii. Traveling in Kyoto, other than drinking tea and taking in the minimalist framed view of the Japanese rock garden, shopping for teapots is another form of therapy. Perhaps it is another way for the ladies of the house.
Here we got a piece of work by Yoko Fuji, graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1967. Her works had been exhibited in Kyoto and Germany.
